Provide advanced education to train thousands of

Reef Rangers

WHY CORAL?

One billion people and 25% of all marine life rely on coral reefs

Reef Rangers

The rapid loss of coral reefs is far outpacing the number of people who have the latest training in the science, methodologies and techniques to help coral survive. Moreover, many have felt the call to restore coral reefs around the world without the benefit of the latest science and techniques that can help coral withstand the pressures of extreme heatwaves and pollution. The Coral Resilience Institute fills the gap between science and practitioners. Today:

  • There are far too few well-trained practitioners with hands in the lab and ocean to help coral survive.

  • We count but a few hundred well-trained coral practitioners.

  • We need thousands of well trained Reef Rangers across the planet.

The Coral Resilience Institute are inspiring a global network of Reef Rangers, trained with the latest scientific knowledge and techniques needed to “climate-proof” coral reefs.  Reef Rangers live on the front lines of climate change, utilizing advanced restoration methods to help secure a future for jobs, flood protection, medicine and food.

  • Reef Rangers courses are free of charge.

  • Basic courses are for everyone while more advanced ones are limited to coral science students and professionals.

  • Each class prioritizes participation from low-income/”coral-rich” countries.

  • Our instructor pool is diverse, with high representation from  coral-rich nations.

Regional Hubs

Reef Resilience Builder’s Global Reef Ranger Network is anchored by Regions that train and connect advanced coral restoration practitioners with the latest science and technology, making training accessible to those developing countries where coral lives.

Regional Groups are based on Coral Reef Consortium’s global map. They are places where those involved in coral restoration come together and share the successes (and failures) of local efforts, places where they can learn and grow together. Group members support each other by sharing their work; together they learn new techniques from regional and international experts to help “climate proof” their reefs, giving hope to reefs that would otherwise be on the decline in their region.

Each Regional Group is supported by an advanced coral research and restoration expert, as well as researchers, practitioners, and resource managers with a vested interest in coral restoration, implementation techniques, and scalability of these methods.
