Saving Coral Reefs from Extinction

We aim to train thousands of Reef Rangers around the world. Reef Rangers are those who have been taught the latest science needed to give coral reefs a chance. Reef Rangers offers courses spanning basic coral reef ecology for lay audiences to advanced training modules for those already working with corals

Build Human Capacity

Reef Rangers addresses the critical need to:

  • Build human capacity for coral research & restoration.

  • Engage in career development and training in coral research and restoration.

  • Provide unrestricted access to the latest information and research facilities.

  • Provide a way to connect to regional and international research and conservation programs.

  • Build and foster equity in coral conservation leadership.

Global Success at Scale

  • Reef Rangers is open to all free of charge.

  • Basic courses are for everyone while more advanced ones are limited to coral science students and professionals.

  • Each class will prioritize participation from low-income/”coral-rich” countries.

  • Our instructor pool is diverse, with high representation from coral-rich nations.

5 Year Goals

  • REEF
RANGERS

    8,400 well trained practitioners

  • REEFS PROTECTED/
RESTORED

    ‘10,000 km2 of “climate-proofed” coral reefs.

  • JOB CREATION
(PARKS, TOURISM, RESTORATION)

1 million jobs generated (1 km2 of healthy coral reef is associated with 100 local jobs.)

Building global emergency response capacity

Coral bleaching and disease events are on the rise. Our regional Reef Rangers serve as our in-water emergency response squads with the ability to rescue imperiled corals. Right now, only a handful of scientists know how to rescue corals en masse. We aim to change that
